knowing culture of one

Jalandhar: The concluding day of annual ‘One India’ celebration at Lovely Professional University witnessed
fusion of Indian Sports & Culture expo. Thousands of LPU Students from 28 states displayed peculiar sports activities,
equipments and cultural heritage of their respective states, under the theme of
the year “Khel India”. Different
students groups worked together to highlight Sports stalwarts & celebrities
of different states like Sachin Tendulkar, Sania Mirza, Saina Nehwal, Vishwnath
Anand, Karthikyen, Abhinav Bindra, Yogeshwar Dutt & others. Sports activities practically prominent in the Indian sports arena,
indigenous and present day, were also showcased. In addition, the culture, monuments, festivals and dances were also exhibited and
elaborated for the sightseer students. Before declaring the
celebration close, Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal honoured the participating students
with prizes and certificates for their massive participation in exposition of
oneness.
Addressing all, Chancellor Mittal said: “I am pleased to see the students
working together while working for the peculiarities of some other state. When
students from different parts of India work closely, they represent the real
strength of India. This is the true culture that LPU wants to infuse among
its students so that they may understand and respect each other’s culture and
customs.” In context to the theme of the year and laying stress on the sports
activities, he continued: “In present scenario of busy life schedule, sports
are becoming an integral part of civilized, progressive work & corporate
social responsibility practices.”
Students, on
the one hand, demonstrated and displayed for the indigenous games of different
Indian States like Choy Guti, Sholo Guti of Tripura;
Pidio, Chausar of Madhya Pradesh; Asta Chamma, Daadi, Pachisi of Andhra
Prades; Aadu Puli of Tamilnadu- all considered to be the original form of
Chess; Insuknawar of Mizoram, Mal Khamb of Maharashtra, Salami, Gilli-danda,
Jalli Kuttu( Bull Fight), Lagori, Adla Bandi(Bull Cart Race), Kutti Kollum,
Boat race, Gatka, Swords fight, kite-Flying and many others. On the
other, they highlighted the illustrious achievements of Indian sports stars-
Olympians, Asiad Players, Coaches, Cricketers belonging to different states.
This all was perfectly mingled with the famous Indian dances like Bharatnatyam,
Bihu, Kaal-Belia, Jhoomar, Odishi, Mohiniattam amid the melodies of different
states.
On this occasion, Pranath, an LPU student from Andhra Pradesh said: “I
really got gripped to know about the sports and culture of other states of
India. I have not visited many parts of
India, but through this expo I have come to know about famous Mysore Tennis
Stadium, wonderful Brihadishwara Temple in Tamil Nadu, Neer Mahal in Tripura,
many traditional games, fairs, festivals etc. Now I greet my Tamil
class-fellows with their greeting words “Wadakam”. This all has given me
a great national spirit and character.”

ONE INDIA is a very great event at LPU,the perfect blend of talent and enjoyment,its a life time expereince and a mindblowing one too...thank you LPU for hosting this event
